November 13, 2022 the Inauguration Ceremony of the Global Development Promotion Center held in Beijing and H.E Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC CC, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China attended as the guest of honor.
H.E Ambassador Teshome Toga, speaking on behalf of Friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) said that, the inauguration of the Global Development Promotion Center is a timely initiative to speed up the implementation of the SDGs and to coordinate China’s cooperation with the Global South in particular.
The Ambassador commended the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), to take such a concrete step to creating an institution that will work in tandem with various national, regional and global organizations that will enhance and expedite the execution of major global decisions, like SDGs, Climate Change Action, Addis Ababa Action Agenda for financing development, and the Agenda 2063, the Africa We Want.
Ambassador Teshome noted that, when international community join hands within the national policy framework, like China does, the outcome has been positive and productive,
Stating that policy prescription and attempts to impose governance and development models that do not consider each country’s unique conditions proved to be counterproductive, the Ambassador reiterated that, countries should be free to make their sovereign policy choices and development models including their development partners.
Our strategic partnership with China, is based on the principle of respecting policy independence as we also do respect China’s choice of governance and development models that handsomely delivered for the people of China, he added.
According to the Ambassador the stellar transformation of China proves how effective and realistic homegrown policies are.
Furthermore the Ambassador congratulated H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China for being elected as a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, one of the very important organs in China.
The Global Development Initiative ( GDI), which was proposed by President Xi Jinping at 76th session of the UN General Assembly in 2021, is now supported by more than 100 countries.
