On November 15,2022, H.E. Ambassador Teshome Toga delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development (ISSCAD) 2022 in Peking University, to welcome the first group of international students since the outbreak of COVID19.
The Ambassador expressed his congratulations to the Institute for the achievements in the past 7 years, extended the appreciation for making the graduates actively participating into national governance, exploring the new path of modernization in their specific context, including in Ethiopia.
Ambassador Teshome also applaud to the support of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), in which the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development has grown to be the global centre of excellence and has attracted talents from diverse cultures to pursue studies on national governance.
The Ambassador stressed that, in any partnership, understanding one another and respecting each other are key to the success of working together, and he added that, several countries from the global South including China have made remarkable progress in social and economic development, poverty reduction, infrastructures development and technical capabilities.
Indicating that in most cases, the mindset has always been looking up to the North and paying little or no attention to relevant and recent experiences and less costly best practices from the South, Ambassador Teshome said, hence South-South Cooperation with the aim of learning from one another has gained its prominence.
Furthermore, the Ambassador noted that, since the inception of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 22 years ago, both sides have engaged in a truly win-win or in a mutual rewarding partnership and he said, China is Africa’s largest trading partner and major source of development finance and FDI.
The Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development (ISSCAD) was initiated and announced by H.E. President Xi Jinping at the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the United Nations in New York
