On December 25, 2023, in a meeting arranged by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce, and Animal By-Products, H.E. Ambassador Tefera Derbew met with Professor Zhang Zhenzhing, the President of the China Ambulatory Surgery Alliance (CASA), to discuss the proposal of CASA operating in Ethiopia.
Ambulatory surgery refers to an operation where the patient is admitted, operated on, and discharged within one working day.
During the discussion, Professor Zhang expressed his interest in the proposal that the China Ambulatory Surgery Alliance begin operations in Ethiopia upon approval from the Ethiopian government.
H.E. Ambassador Tefera Derbew welcomed the initiative and gave the Chinese side assurance of the Embassy’s backing.
Furthermore, the Chinese side asked the Ambassador if Ethiopia could consider trying to grow Chinese genetically modified rice that can grow up to two meters tall.
The ambassador thanked the Chinese side for the offer and assured them that he would convey the message to the relevant Ethiopian agricultural institute.
