On 25 August 2022, the Embassy attended on “the 5th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation” which was jointly organized by the Chinese National Radio and Television Administration, the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and the African Union of Broadcasting in Beijing.
In a congratulatory message delivered through their representatives on the opening of the forum, Chinese President H.E Xi Jinping and Senegalese President H.E Macky Sall both noted that Africa and China enjoy a strong economic and social collaboration based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation and emphasized on the need for African and Chinese media to collaborate and widen their global outreach, and employ technology for the greater success of Africa-China cooperation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum Ambassador Teshome Toga noted that the 8th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) ministerial conference held in Dakar, Senegal last year has setup 9 priority programs one of which is, Press and Media cooperation under the program of cultural and people-to-people exchanges and stressed on the need for African and Chinese media to collaborate through co-production of programs, news coverage, content creation, leadership and staff training, and knowledge and technology exchange programs all based on the principles of equality, mutual benefits and win-win cooperation.
Furthermore, the Ambassador underscored the importance showing the significant efforts that are being made by both Africa and China in economic, education, health, environmental protection and other related areas of development collaboration to counter the distorted and too often times the misleading narratives peddled by outside interest groups regarding Africa-China cooperation.
Moreover, he called on African and Chinese media to double their commitment and play a greater role for the success of China-Africa cooperation, as it is much expected from them.
Mr. HUANG Kunming who is the Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Mr. XU Lin – Minister of the Chinese National Radio and Television Administration, Mr. Chen Jining – Mayor of the Beijing Municipal Government, and Mr. Gregoire Ndjaka – CEO of the African Union of Broadcasting all have attended the forum and have delivered remarks.
All together, 240 government and heads of media from China and 42 African countries, including the African Union have attended the forum virtually and offline.
