On the 12th of March 2024, H.E Ambassador Tefera Derbew, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to China received and held discussion with Mr. Balthasar Staehelin with a rank of Personal Envoy of the president to China and Head of Regional Delegation under the International Committee of the Red Cross.
H.E Ambassador Tefera derbew thanked Mr Balthasar Staehelin and his companion for visiting the Embassy and dedication shown to closely work together with the Embassy on humanitarian and other related development issues.
He also elucidated the activities done by the government of Ethiopia in areas of rehabilitation and re-integration process.
In this regard, the government has been trying to assist to different regions which are affected by conflict coupled with climate crisis, said ambassador. After appreciating the various supports given, he also urged the ICRC to strengthen its all inclusive humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia and adding ICRC has always been with Ethiopia during trying circumstances.
He also briefed about FOCAC and BRICS to the visiting team and finally advised them to identify areas where the ICRC cooperates with African countries and BRICS member countries.
Mr. Balthasar Staehelin, on his part expressed his gratitude for being warmly received at the office and highlighted the long-aged dialogue engagement of the Embassy.
He also underlined the need to continue to work closely with the Embassy on issues of mutual interest and common concern.
Finally both agreed to augment the existing cooperation and collaboration between the Embassy and International Committee of the Red Cross.
